Wriggle and Rhyme has been operating in South Africa for almost 18 years. Over this period our passion for music education has been focussed on children from ages 6 months to 6 years old, through our WRIGGLERS, RHYMERS and PRE-SCHOOLER programmes.
Earlier this year, a catch-up conversation with one of our W&R branch teachers got me thinking about younger babies. I’d been doing a lot of reading on the science-backed impact of music as a tool for connection, and its positive impact on mental health.
Something clicked and the stars aligned. Eureka! It was time to create and launch a programme exclusively for moms and their very young babies.
As we know, the early months of motherhood are filled with extraordinary moments. Tiny smiles, sleepy cuddles and the wonder of getting to know your baby. These are often woven together with exhaustion, uncertainty and the demands of caring for a newborn.
Snugglers was created with this season in mind.
Designed for moms and babies aged 2 to 5 months, Snugglers is an intimate programme that uses the power of music to nurture connection and build community.
Research shows that music is a powerful tool for strengthening attachment between parent and child. Through singing, movement, touch and shared musical experiences, babies learn to feel safe, seen and connected. At the same time, music can bring comfort, calm and joy to moms navigating the exquisite burden of early motherhood.
How long are the sessions and what’s included?
The Snugglers programme runs across 8 weeks for 1 hour a week. Fees are R1,500 for the programme.
At each session, moms and babies will enjoy developmentally appropriate musical activities that fit naturally into a young baby’s daily rhythms. Whether it’s soothing, playing, moving or simply spending time together, moms will discover practical ways to use music throughout your day at home.
As part of the term fees, each mom will also receive a gorgeous Snugglers pack. This includes a beautifully curated Snugglers journal. Filled with guided prompts and space for reflection, it will be used in the classes and become a treasured keepsake of this precious season.
Connect with the motherhood tribe
But Snugglers is about more than connecting moms with their babies. It’s also about helping moms to find their tribe.
Motherhood can feel isolating at times, and one of the greatest gifts of Snugglers is the opportunity to meet other moms walking a similar journey.
Over coffee, conversation and shared experiences, friendships will be formed and encouragement and support shared.
Snugglers will be a space to slow down, be present and strengthen the bonds that matter most.
