Pre-Schooler in Fish Hoek

For the love of children …

Written by Kirsty Savides

Teaching is a calling. In order to spend every single day with little people, you really have to love them. You have to love being with children. You have to love connecting with them and nurturing them. It’s not a career, it’s a calling!

A special anniversary

This month, one of our teaching team, HEATHER GORDON is celebrating her 10th year of working for Wriggle and Rhyme.

Heather started with Wriggle and Rhyme in May 2011. I remember it so well because in March 2011 my youngest son was born.

Heather and I have been friends for years, so when we started talking about working together, it was an exciting prospect!

At that stage, Heather was also a mom to young children and was desperate to do the school runs, be available for her kids after school and in the holidays, and still contribute financially to their household.

Taking W&R into pre-schools

In those days, it was the conception of the Wriggle and Rhyme Pre-Schools programme, and Heather was the first teacher to take the Wriggle and Rhyme music programme into Pre-Schools.

It was all so new, that I hadn’t yet written the full W&R Pre-Schools programme. But as my children grew and the business grew, I wrote more songs and more material. By 2014 the full programme, as it is now, was completed.

For the past 10 years, Heather has shown incredible loyalty and diligence in her work with Wriggle and Rhyme. She’s been involved in so many Pre-Schools across the South Peninsula and Southern Suburbs, bringing our music programme to hundreds of children over the years.

Heather has a gift for remembering names. After just a few weeks of teaching in a school, she’ll know the names of all the children she teaches. Even if there are over a hundred of them. Even if she’s only seeing them for 30 minutes each week.

This sweet little budding musician made a special card at school for HEATHER. How precious!

Remembering with gratitude

I’m very grateful for the journey that Heather and I have been on, both personally and professionally.

I value her very much and I also really value what she brings to our team.

So, today we celebrate HEATHER and thank her for her service over the past 10 years.

And we celebrate all teachers – those that love, nurture and inspire children every single day!

All of it is for the love of children!
